A touching portrait, and a nice take on a somewhat tired theme. I love the soft lighting you've chosen to use.

@dYe: Thank you. This is perhaps one of the best photos I've taken, I think. It is certainly one of my favorites. I didn't really choose to use soft lighting; it was what was there. This photo received relatively light post processing. I adjusted the contrast using "grain extract" instead of "overlay" to kill some of the detail. That was mostly necessary because it was a severely cropped photo and it was going to look very pixellated otherwise. And I added vignetting to the edges to highlight the child.
What a very beautiful portrait!!
You have a soft side...and the soft lighting is perfect for the portrait!

@Jen: I'm actually a very tender hearted guy, especially when it comes to adorable little kids. Would you believe that, like almost all the other photos, this was taken while I was sitting in traffic? I noticed the grandparents sharing box lunches while the child cavorted around, and I started snapping shots hoping the kid would do something utterly adorable before the light changed to green and I had to leave them. She did. They were about 40 yards away, which accounts for the slight pixellation that shows up on the tightly cropped photo.
