Ducklings

Our academic year begins in April in Japan. These Tokyo first graders are walking home from school for the first time. One of their teachers is walking them along the designated route they are to follow each day, and one of the students is serving as group leader and carrying flag (which matches the ribbon atop each of their hats).

Several of their mothers were standing out by the street, cameras in hand to record this milestone in their children's lives. As I had a red light to wait on anway, I decided to join them.
