Blue Ocean and Mikasa Maru

Posted by Mike Cash (Kiryu, Japan) on 19 December 2008 in Transportation.

Japanese-owned Blue Ocean, a 31,734 ton bulk carrier , moored at Yokohama's Honmoku Wharf. The Blue Ocean has a beam of 27m and a length of 171m. She was completed in May 2005 and operates under Panamanian registry. She has the dubious distinction of being included on the United States Department of Agriculture's 2007 list of Japanese ships at high risk of gypsy moth infestation. Elementary school children have my permission to print this photo and use it and that very thin slice of trivia for Show-And-Tell.

The Blue Ocean is being serviced by Mikasa Maru, a 1,000 kiloliter domestic tanker operated by Asahi Tanker Company. Essentially a self-propelled floating gas station for ships.
