織物参考館 V Lighting SetupPosted by Mike Cash (Kiryu, Japan) on 6 March 2009 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio. This is a photo showing what the room looked like for the photo posted yesterday. The interior of the museum was well-lit and its roof features a large number of skylights. The common notion of using a flash is that we add light to make a dark scene brighter. What made possible getting a photo like yesterday's in a well-lit room is knowing that it is possible to add light to make a bright scene darker. The brightness of a light drops off very rapidly close to the light source and more slowly the farther away from the source. By setting the light source very near the subject and adjusting the camera for proper exposure of the subject we ensure that surrounding objects receive so much less light that the camera can't register it and consequently it just shows up as blackness.
