氷川丸 I

Posted by Mike Cash (Kiryu, Japan) on 25 March 2009 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio.

First class dining room aboard the Hikawa-maru, an incredible old liner from the golden era of passenger liners with a rich and varied history. The ship served in various capacities from 1930~1960, during which time on 127 voyages she transported approximately 90,000 paying passengers, war wounded, and both military and civilians being repatriated to Japan following the war. Laid up in 1960, she now serves as a museum ship in Yokohama and is the only liner in the world from the golden days which still exists in original configuration.

This is the first of a series of photos from the ship that will run on Wednesdays.
