Election Day in Japan

Posted by Mike Cash (Kiryu, Japan) on 30 August 2009 in Documentary & Street.

An official election poster bulletin board put up alongside Tokyo's Kannana. There were only three candidates' posters present on the board and interestingly enough all three are from female candidates.....which was just perfect for illustrating an aspect of Japanese politics I have long noted:

When it comes to female candidates in Japan, you don't even need to be able to read Japanese at all to 100% reliably guess which (if any) of the women are the candidate of the Communist Party. Every election that rolls around I diligently keep my eyes out for that one candidate which will prove me wrong....but it hasn't happened yet.
