長谷寺 at Midnight

Posted by
Mike Cash (Kiryu, Japan) on 7 January 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This is a Buddhist temple located deep in the mountains to the north of my town. Years ago it had a resident priest, but that was when the surrounding exceedingly rural area had a population. These days there is almost no one left around there. Taken from the hillside cemetery attached to the temple at midnight on the winter solstice under a full moon and light intermittent rain. It was very quiet....just me and a few ghosts. I half expected a few witches to show up, but they must have been previously engaged. It's what I get for not making reservations.

Six minute exposure...that's 100% moonlight, folks.
